Potter Class (Reception)
Welcome
Welcome to Potter Class
Hello and welcome to Potter Class! This year, your class teacher will be Mrs Hern. Miss McGowan, Miss Moon, Mrs Robinson and Miss Solomon will also be supporting your learning throughout the year.
Potter Class is named after the wonderful author Beatrix Potter, who wrote the much-loved Peter Rabbit stories and the Peter Rabbit and Friends series. Her books are filled with adventure, imagination and memorable characters, and we look forward to sharing her love of stories and learning with you throughout the year.
We are excited to welcome you to Potter Class and look forward to a fantastic year of learning, discovery and success together!
Example Weekly Timetable
PE and Forest School
Forest School will take place every Wednesday. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their wellington boots or brings them in a named bag.
Our PE day will be Thursday. Children should come to school dressed in their full PE kit on this day. Please ensure they have their coloured PE top, PE hoodie and PE bottoms. For health and safety reasons, long hair should be tied back and all jewellery removed before school. Having the correct kit helps children to participate confidently, safely and comfortably in all activities.
Thank you for your support and cooperation. We look forward to an exciting year of outdoor learning and physical activity in Potter Class!
Our Super Six
Each term, we share six carefully selected books with the children, known as our Super 6 texts. These books are linked to a particular theme and form the foundation of our learning throughout the term.
The Super 6 approach ensures that children experience a rich and diverse range of high-quality literature that inspires curiosity, develops vocabulary and broadens their understanding of the world. Children's interests, experiences and perspectives remain at the heart of every learning opportunity.
Our Super 6 texts incorporate many of the recommended books from the United Learning Curriculum, which we also follow across a range of foundation subjects throughout our school. This helps to create meaningful links across the curriculum and supports children in making connections between different areas of learning.
Using the Super 6 approach, our reading curriculum is ambitious, carefully sequenced and designed to build children's knowledge and understanding over time. Each year group has its own specially chosen collection of texts, selected to provide appropriate challenge, promote a love of reading and expose children to a wide range of authors, themes and experiences.
We look forward to sharing these wonderful stories with the children and helping them develop a lifelong love of books and reading.
Home Learning
We encourage children to read and share books as often as possible. Reading every day has a significant impact on children's progress and helps to develop their confidence, fluency and enjoyment of reading. This could be a shared story for pleasure, a favourite book from home, or your child's school reading book. Children love to show off their reading skills and share their achievements with their families.
In addition to reading, children should practise their letter sounds every day at home. The sounds your child is currently learning will be recorded in their reading record, helping you to know which sounds to focus on. Regular practice of these sounds supports children to become confident and successful readers.
Thank you for your support in helping your child develop a lifelong love of reading.
