In writing, the children have created their own Blackout Poetry.
Blackout Poetry is a form of “found poetry” where you select words that catch your interest from a newspaper, book, or other printed text – along with a few additional words to make it flow (create cohesion).
The next stage of the process is to obscure (hide) all the words you don’t want. This hiding sometimes (but not always) done with a black marker, hence the name “blackout poetry”. We chose to black out the words we didn't want using a picture of the scene from the book.
The carefully chosen words form a new message, which gives the text a whole new meaning.
Our Black Out Poems have been created using a page from our class novel, 'The Explorer'.
