Mystery Character

By applying inference skills and noticing the finer details, Viola class have discovered that the mystery character in a series of historical portraits was Queen Victoria. After the 'big reveal', children set about some web-based research to deepen their understanding of this long-reigning monarch.  We have already drawn together a wealth of interesting information about her and are looking forward to organising it into a double page spread.

Science - Sorting and Classifying Materials

Children in Viola class have begun their science learning by exploring a range of materials and grouping them according to their properties. Children have extended their scientific vocabulary by considering whether materials are magnetic or non-magnetic, impermeable or permeable, rigid or flexible, opaque or transparent. In our next session children will be considering and explaining why some materials are more suitable than others for their purpose.
