Week 13: Fire & Ice
The science department, at All Saints Academy, kindly invited Year 5 to their immersive states of matter science workshop. Week 11 & 12: DT Exhibition
As part of our school-wide DT project Year 5 have been working with mechanisms and studying how different cam profiles can alter the movement created. From this research, the children went on to make an Automata Toy, which is something that upper-class Victorian children would have played with.
Week 9 & 10: Victorian Music Hall
There has been a lot of noise coming from Sebastian class this week! In music the children have been learning the chords to the Victorian song 'Daisy Bell', on the glockenspiel. Prior to this they've been working on pitch and harmony, whilst learning to sing Daisy Bell in rounds.
Week 8: Diwali Theme Day
The children thoroughly enjoy learning about celebrations around the world, helping to open their minds to different cultures. This week we have focussed on the festival of light and what it means to those who celebrate Diwali. Following their learning of mendhi and its significance to Diwali, the children began to play around with their own designs.
Week 7: Publishing
Over the past 3 weeks, the children have been exploring ways to bring fictional characters to life through their writing. They've unpicked high quality character descriptions, planned, written and edited their own work. Now they are presenting their depictions of Jim Jarvis, from The Street Child, in best.
Week 6: Reading Skills
This week the children have thoroughly enjoyed unpicking the poem 'Macavity: The Mystery Cat' by T.S. Elliot. From predicting what the future might hold for this monster of depravity to retrieving rich vocabulary from the text to infer deeper meanings behind the poem.

Also, they have worked hard to collate their growing knowledge of Queen Victoria into a double-page spread.

Week 2: Response & Reaction in PE
This week Sebastian Class have enjoyed working on coordination and agility with a number of reaction tasks. The children have learnt the importance of staying alert and ready to respond to their team mates as well as opponents. This has encouraged the children to think tactfully before they make a move in games such as Throw Tennis.
Week 1: Topic research
Through a series of picture clues, Sebastian class discovered that their mystery historical figure was Queen Victoria. To help the children understand who this renowned monarch was, they set to work creating a fact-file through developing their research skills using the iPads.
