Prospero Class (Year 1)
Welcome booklet for September 2022
The children have loved exploring warm and cool colours this week in art. They used the watercolour paints to create a picture using these.
We have been exploring repeating patterns in maths this week. The children have had lots of fun using the shapes and creating their own patterns.
This week we have been learning about lots of new and exciting topics.
On Tuesday, we learnt about Diwali and discussed why this is celebrated. We spent the afternoon making lanterns and diva lamps, then we coloured some rangoli patterns.
On Friday, we learnt the story behind Guy Fawkes night, then created art based on this.
In Art this week we looked at the paintings of African American artists Alma Brown. She loved bright colours and making people feel happy, we hope our paintings in her style make you feel happy too!

This week in maths, we have been comparing different groups of objects and discussing which group has more/ less or if they are equal. The children have also had time to log on to NumBots and work through some of the challenges. This a great way to practise their maths skills at home!

This week the children have been learning the story 'Six Fish' in English. They have been working on holding and writing a sentence in their books. We have also celebrated European Day of Languages by painting French flags and trying brioche.

This week Prospero class have explored lots of new topics. In maths we have been sorting objects into groups, and during English we have been learning and retelling the story ‘Sit on the Bus’.
