EYFS Areas of Learning
Week 1.3 Forest School Fun!
World Book Day 2023
We celebrated World Book day this year through the theme of 'bedtime stories'. We dressed in our pyjamas and enjoyed sharing our favourite books with Benvolio Class in the afternoon.
Learning about Diwali
We celebrated Diwali looking at the book Binny’s Diwali. The children enjoyed making their own Diya lamps.
We had fun reading the Owl Babies story. We learned that owls are awake at night and we are awake during the day. Our cutting skills came in handy to make our own owl puppets.
Week 1.2 Exploring the Colour Red
In Nursery, we investigated the colour red. We found different red objects and talked about the red things we could see. We then had great fun painting and printing using red paint!
Term 3 Changes
we have been looking at the story of the Gingerbread Man. We explored the raw dough using our senses. How does it smell? What colour is it? How does it feel?
After this we made our own gingerbread man and predicted how the dough might change once it was cooked.
We decorated then ate them. They were yummy! The dough wasn’t soft and squidgy anymore it was hard and crispy.
Week 3 Changes
We explored the ice in the tuff spot! We discovered it felt cold and hard. When we held it in our hands it changed. We wondered why this happens. We worked out that our hands are warm and that melts the ice. It turns into water and drips from our hands. It still feels cold.
It was really chilly outside this week and we spotted that the water in the tyres froze each morning and melted by the end of the day especially if it was in the sun.
Exploring Long, longest, short and shortest.
This week we have explored long and short. We compared shocks to find the longest and the shortest. We also took long and short strips of paper into the unit to compare and measure the things we found.
Exploring floating and sinking.
This week are reading ‘Who Sank The Boat’. We will be thinking about what made the boat sink. Was it the cow? Was it the little mouse? We did an experiment with different objects to see which floated and which sank. The shell floated but only when we put it on the water really carefully, if water got into the shell it sank. The lolly stick, boat and peg floated too but the rock sank with a bit of a splash…it was heavy!
Term 4 Wonderful Wildlife
The children have been enjoying our new vet role play area. We have spotted some great imaginative play fixing our poorly animals. The children have been really good at sharing the resources.
The children have enjoyed exploring our science area. They have been looking very closely at all kids of bugs.
We have been exploring the Christian festival of Easter. The children made Easter cards with yellow chicks. A symbol of new life and Spring.
We also made Easter nests. We talked about how the chocolate might change when we heated it. The children stirred in the cornflakes and spooned the mix into a bun case. They waited patiently for their turn. We had to be quick as we noticed the chocolate was setting.
