COVID-19 Curriculum
In 2020-2021 our Covid Catch up response was reported separately to our Pupil premium. This document can be found below.
This year (2021-2022) our Covid Catch Up plan is combined with our Pupil Premium plan. This strategy can be found on our Pupil Premium page.
Tutoring here at Shakespeare
Academic Mentor
Our Academic Mentor is Mrs Harvie. She has undergone intensive training prior to joining us here at Shakespeare and continues her professional development by being an active member of the professional development that all of our staff participate in such as Read Write Inc. She works alongside our dedicated staff team to provide one-to-one and small-group, subject-specific tuition with a focus on reading.
The National Tutoring Programme supports pupils, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to catch up on missed education due to COVID-19. Our pupils are assessed weekly by Mrs Harvie to ensure their targets remain focussed and current.
Pupils who work with Mrs Harvie are accurately identified using the assessment systems linked to Read Write Inc. Their targets are set from these assessments and focus on their specific needs. Pupils receive daily 15 minute sessions; timetabled at different time slots throughout the week to ensure pupils are not missing the same curriculum areas in class.
School Led Tutor
Our School Led Tutor is Mrs Tothill, her role is designed to help close the education gap between disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils and their peers. We use our in-school assessment systems to decide which pupils need the most support to help them catch-up on missed education.
To enable a seamless transition and to ensure pupils transfer learning we facilitate regular interaction between staff and tutors. This ensures that sessions address education gaps and provide support in areas that pupils are struggling with. Mrs Tothill focuses on a specific subtopic or skill within English that will be particularly beneficial to pupils’ progress. We know that tuition is most beneficial when it is explicitly linked to classroom teaching and pupil’s specific needs • Mrs Tothill offers high quality and individualised feedback is essential to a pupil’s progress. Pupils sessions are daily for 30 minutes. We recognise that short, regular and sustained tutoring sessions have the greatest impact. Each group is made up of 2 or 3 pupils as smaller group sizes lead to better outcomes for pupils.
