Carl's Classification

It started with Aristotle who noticed some animals and plants had similarities. Later this theory was developed further by Carl Linneaus who broke down the categories of living species and named plants and animals based on their Genus and Species.

Did you know that living organisms can be divided into five Kingdoms - Monera, unicellular, simple cells like bacteria; Protist, also unicellular but more complex as they have a nucleus; Fungi, they have their own kingdom as there are no other organisms like them as they are plants but they cannot make their own food; Plant, they all share the common characteristic that they can make their own food; Animal, multi-cellular organisms that rely on other organisms for their food making this the largest kingdom of them all.

The children undertook an activity to sort some organisms into the different kingdoms.
